Aftercare
You finally have your princess hair fitted, now it is time to learn how to look after those locks and how to get the very best wear out of them.
Each set of extensions will last you at least 6 month, with the right aftercare you could even see the hair reaching the 9-12 month mark whilst still look just as fab as when it was applied – how long your extensions lasts is really down to you!

You need to be following the next steps as if its bible:
Maintenance
You are required to come in every 6 weeks to have you hair extensions maintained, this process consists of each individual strand being removed, a fresh ring being applied and the strand being repositioned closed to the scalp again. This is needed as your natural hair grows and the extensions will also grow down with it, you do not want strands left dangling or pulling on your natural hair, we are aiming to always keep it no more than an inch growth.
Maintenances are so important so please do make sure you are keeping up with them, it’s a chance for me to check your natural hair regularly ensuring all is healthy and well. Any hair that has shed or mattes are removed each maintenance, and any strands that have come out are reapplied, keeping things looking and feeling fresh.
Please note these are recommend every 6 WEEKS, some clients are able to push to 7/8 weeks but this is really down to natural hair type and growth, please consult with me and I can advise. Any extensions left without maintenance any longer than 8 weeks require a Refit appointment.

Refit
Refits are not the recommended way to look after your hair extensions, you should not be relying on these over maintenance appointments as you are leaving you hair with extensions grown out a for a longer period of time than safe. These should be a last resort and not a regular occurrence .
At a refit appointment all hair extensions are removed, natural hair is brushed through removing any build-up of hair and any mattes, don’t be alarmed but there will be more than usual because of how long it has been left. Then the hair is re-sectioned and the extensions are neatly applied again.

Removal
NEVER REMOVE EXTENSION YOURSELF.
You can really damage you natural hair by trying to remove extensions, a professional with the correct equipment should always preform the removal of extensions. Any type of at home DIY pliers are never suitable to touch your hair, these are incredibly sharp in comparison with professional hair extension pliers, incorrect tools can literally slice natural hair causing hair loss.
Washing
To keep your hair extension healthy and looking fresh you will need to be using the correct products on them, this is a really important factor when it comes to how long they will last you.
I recommend using the Amberlie & Co. product range, these have been specially formulated to coat and seal the hair increasing the wear time dramatically.
Please avoid using any other products, especially mass produced high street brands as these contain harsh chemicals that can break down and dry out the extensions.
Your hair washing process should look like this:
-
Detangle hair prior to washing ensure all knots are removed.
-
Keep head upright to reduce any pulling, try to use a shower rather than a bath.
-
Do not rub or twist product into hair, massage into scalp and the squeeze product into the extensions.
-
Apply conditioner generously and brush through using a Amberlie & Co. detangler, start from the very ends and work your way up.
-
When you are finished squeeze out as much excess water as possible
-
Wrap hair up washing a special hair towel, these are lighter on hair than a regular towel and prevent any pulling or discomfort.
There is no right or wrong amount of times to wash your hair a week.
Brushing and Blowdrying
Allow your hair to sit in a towel for at least 15/20 minutes so that any excess water has been absorbed. Then gently brush through hair before blow drying, always start from the ends and work up to prevent any tugging on the extensions. I recommend using the Amberlie & Co. detangling brush these are designed to be gentle and effective on hair extensions. You will need to protect your extension from any harsh heat, the Thermal Serum in the Amberlie & Co. aftercare range is ideal as it creates a smooth barrier against heat leaving extension silky and protected.
Styling
Your hair extensions can be straightened, curled, blowdried ect. But please do be aware frequent exposure to high heat can have a impact on the lifespan of the hair, also be mindful that your natural hair is also being exposed to the heat and you could be damaging it by over using styling tools each day.
Protect your hair by using the Amberlie & Co. Thermal Protection and nourish after using heat with the Amberlie & Co. Argan Oil.
Avoid applying heat directly onto the root of your extensions as you can melt the bonding agent that hold the hair together.
To maintain a glossy shine and hydration use the Amberlie & co. Long Hair Do Care Mask, Hair Protector & Argan Rehydrate Treatment on a regular basis, these will replenish the essential oils and vitamins that can be stripped away by heat over time.
My recommended styling tools are the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, GHD Soft Curl Tongs, GHD Classic Curl Tongs, Mark Hill Wave Wand & GHD Max Hair Straightener.
Dying and Colouring
Any processes such as dying can shorten the lifespan of your hair extensions. Try to avoid any type of bleaching as this can be extremely damaging to the extensions and it can be risky in terms of colour results as the pigments underneath the hair will be different to your own. If you do decide to colour your hair please try to have this carried out by a professional. Outcome of colouring can vary as the extensions have already undergone a lengthily process to achieve there colour at application. It is always easier to go darker than lighter.
Sleeping
Please always ensure your hair is completely dry before going to bed at night and place it into a loose braid or low ponytail. You toss and turn at night causing friction on the hair which can result in mattes and tangles, you need to be minimalizing this by keeping them neatly in place.

Good to know
You may lose some extensions, its actually normal to lose up to 25 strands in between appointments. Please hold onto any that come out as they can be reapplied.
Extensions are applied fairly tightly to ensure they are secure, some clients will experience a tightness on the scalp. Any discomfort will subside within a matter of days once your scalp has adjusted and returned back to normal.
Some clients experience a itching sensation on their scalp around a week after application, this is normal and is caused by the scalp beginning to relax again after having quite tight tension applied onto it, this does wear off
Hair extensions can be cut and coloured, please talk to my beforehand for advice.
Extra strands can always be added at any point of wear, and vice versa you can always have some removed.
